Packaging and Storage

 

After the successful completion of the sterilization process, the subsequent packaging is essential to ensure sterility and stable quality of the spices.

 

Packaging requirements depend on:

1. Type of spices

2. Whether it is ground or intact

3. Stored humidity

 

Some spices such as chillies and peppercorns are more volatile in their aroma when ground and therefore require packaging materials that effectively isolate them from air and light, such as foil pouches or airtight jars, while larger particles or whole forms of spices such as cinnamon sticks and star anise are likely to be packaged in packaging more concerned with humidity resistance and protection of structural integrity.
